The renewal of French Protestantism in the 19th century was accompanied by some fascinating personalities, and amongst them, of course, some pioneering pastors responsible for the organisation of the communities. But the Protestants also took an active part in government life and the workings of society. A number of politicians, armed forces’ officers, as well as men and women actively involved in economics, in university and civil life, have become well-known by their achievements.
