The Protestant community existed mainly in the South and the West of France, mostly amongst the gentry, the middle class and handicraftsmen. It had its own schools and theological faculties by means of which the reformed faith was passed on to future generations. Towards the end of the century some Lutherans came and settled in Paris. As foreigners they had the right to celebrate their services of worship.
