The first sign of the renewed status of the Protestant community within the French society was its reorganisation. This reintegration had started in 1787 with the « édit de tolérance » granting the huguenots a civil status, and then the 1789 Révolution granting the freedom of worship. Nevertheless, it was Napoleon Bonaparte who founded the new organisation of the Reformed church and the Alsacian Lutheran church within the Concordat and Organic Articles. But the new system caused problems which would be solved only after a period of conflict and the separation of Church and State. The separation enabled fast progress towards the creation of the Fédération protestante de France in 1905. Alsatian Protestantism was to be marked by the German annexation in 1871.
