Chatillon-Coligny was an important centre for Protestantism |
|
Chatillon sur Loing was one of the main centres for French Protestantism in the Berry and Orleans provinces. The protestant inhabitants were lucky enough to have two places of worship, one in a parish, the other on the lord's estate as he was an important jurist. In addition, there was the only protestant college to be in activity from 1562 to 1681 and famous ministers from the Jurieu and the Lenfant families attended.
There are well-stocked archives on this period, birth, marriage and death certificates as well as documents from the Consistory. This enables one to find out useful information about many local families.
